Review of Investment Strategies

Trustees of self-managed superannuation funds (SMSF’s) have a fiduciary obligation to ensure an appropriate investment strategy for the Fund is determined and appropriately documented. The investments of the Fund should be made based on this documented strategy.

Trustees are also required to consider whether insurance for the Fund members is required. Documenting what you have determined the insurance needs are for each member in the investment strategy is now a statutory requirement.

Over time, investment strategies change due to the changing risk profiles and requirements of the members. We recommend that all trustees review the documented investment strategy for their Funds and consider whether this strategy needs to be updated. A review of the level of insurance cover for each member is also recommended. If you require assistance with either of these matters, please contact us.
